Dan, thanks for the news. Is OTI-9325 and extension to OTI-9220 or OTI-912? 20ms seek time sound very interesting, if the same can be done on DVD-RAM, then the last bottleneck of DVD-RAM will be greatly resolved. This should also enhance profit margin. The only concern is that will it give more reason for Sony to develop its own controller? My guess is "No" at least for now and 1998 since the move does not give any immediate threat to Sony's core business. OTOH, it makes perfect sense to me that Sony developes their own mpeg2 codec because this is the logical step to preserve their competitive advantage over other home electonic giants like Toshiba, Panasonic. In fact, I believe Toshiba and Panasonic may eventually develop thier own codec too. aC
