"You're looking back. Looking forward, there are more capable phones selling for less. "

There's always been competition, yet iPhone ASP has been incredibly consistent. I have not seen evidence that there's any new pricing pressure. Maybe that changes in the future. I'd guess little effect in the near term, as I suspect pricing is covered in most of the carrier contracts.

"I like the rumor that Apple might release a streaming music service. Not because I think they'll make substantial money from the service itself... they'd have a hard time catching up to Pandora, SXM, etc., but because they could use it as an opportunity to monetize their traffic. If they used Google's platform to monetize the traffic and keep the lion's share for themselves, they could add substantial high-margin income."

I mentioned this before, and I'd like to get your take. Horace Dediu has done some calculations to determine that each iTunes account holder spends about $40/yr. That seems to be a pretty good, existing monetization scheme, doesn't it? For comparison, Google once mentioned that they were targetting $10/yr per smartphone user as a revenue goal...

Ryan, we understand your concerns. But I think you should note, I have always found the FA of pyslent and slacker to be quite knowledgable. Particularly around the area of phones. Neither are unqualified apple bulls.

RB, this seems to be the foundation of your position. It keeps coming up again and again in your posts. Several times, you've stated that the iPhone 5 compares to the S3, not the S4, and you keep referring to iPhone 5 as behind the current crop of Samsung products. Just curious. What is the big deal that makes the iPhone so behind for you?

Personally, I don't see it. One has a built in battery. The other has removable. One has two cameras. The other has a better single camera. One is bigger & heavier due to a larger screen. Nothing really stands out to me as a game changer. It looks to me like a lot of personal preference on your part being exaggerated into psudo-facts to support your anti Apple bias. Me thinks you might just be an Android fanboy unable to be pragmatic about it, since your arguments are so completely polar and not supported by much more than your own opinion.

I don't see the S4 pulling converts from Apple's ecosystem. I certainly don't see any advanced technology making the iPhone 5 obsolete.
