Yes, yes. Some Americans have been paying attention. Lot's of bad behavior went on for long periods before it was eventually stopped.

The "May" in the title of Leopold's highlights the plausible deniability I mentioned yesterday. Overstepping the bounds of privacy is a lot tougher to deny after a scoop like Greenwald's. Now they are forced to say, "Yes, we've been spying on Americans en masse and without legal authority, but it's routine. Nothing to worry about here. Just chasing 'bad guys.' Move along."

Like I said: a silver bullet is unlikely. Piecemeal revelations like this are the best hope we have to slowly build a case toward Americans saying, "enough."
