No, Doug, you are not hallucinating. The drives are not build by CREAF. They are not repeating their previous mistake with CD-ROMs.

However, there is much more to a DVD kit than the drive. Unlike CD-ROM's, the drive is not all there is. There is a companion circuit board, which does much more than a disk interface. The MPEG decoders (audio and video) are on this card. The card in the Creative kit was designed and is built by them. There are also software drivers which are supplied by Creative.
