An alternate to cellular providors.>> Arun, ORBCOMM will not provide any voice service due to its limited bandwith. The Subscriber Communicators are only designed to send short bursts of packetized data at 2400 bps due to the limited capability of the satellite receivers and on-board processing. The satellite downlink rate is a continuous stream of 4800/9600 bps packets. Orbital is currently designing a follow on system that will address higher data rate capabilities. Right now ORBI is starting small and will use the revenues to pay for more aggressive future systems. As you stated, their business plan is very different from the aggressive and untested MOT plan.
