I agree. It's starting to feel like Big Brother. What's next? We need to post a photo? Use our real names? Supply fingerprints? Hell, Management already has my name and credit card number. Isn't that enough? I thought there was some expectation of privacy that went along with the fee. Sure, not the same Management but you get the point.

I again suggest an option to opt out of this system. The option to opt out is built in just don't use it. Knowing who is recommending what will help stop lots of the useless recommendations of useless stuff by people just trying to cause trouble, especially those that recommend posts on threads they can't actually post on.

Jurgis: Your post has so far 6 recos. Have a quick peek at the 6 profiles and then tell me that it wasn’t “helpful” to see who is advocating on opt-out option. SI is imho a unique community with many long standing members. Some very vocal. Some very quiet. Some with special interests. Some with special qualifications. Some even with very personal agendas. Who recos what might be of no consequence on general interest or political forums BUT it sure matters on investment forums and last I checked, that’s what SI is still all about. Let’s take an O&G forum just as an example. There are SI members who know O&G and there are others who just dabble with / pump / dump the flavour of the month stock but essentially know nothing about O&G. Let’s say I see an interesting post about XYZ oil company with 10 recos. Under the old system these recos didn’t mean much aside from attracting eyeballs. Under the new system we can qualify these recos. Did the known P&D artists reco this post or did guys who have actual industry knowledge / experience reco this post? Now tell us again that there should be an opt-out option ...
