If you think volunteer service is cool, the question you have to ask yourself is "How many hours do I do so every week?" (Don't answer it publicly because its your service, not mine.) The weepy feel so much for them stuff .....is a waste of good electrolytes.

Anyone can go to care home, a hospital, a hospice......the list is long, and put in the training time (which is a real hassle) and do weekly service. All these organizations need help. (It takes a few months to slide into something you want to do.....its a test and training period where they get a good look at you.)

If you are more serious.....join the fkn peace corps. Really. Get your belly full of idealism mixed in with a good dose of the local illnesses. I know guys and gals that are still sick forty years later from their two year stints. Got to be careful....drinkin a lot of beer was not all that bad after all.

I had a friend that went down to NO after Katrina. They were asking for Volunteers. They put them in harms way with chemicals, micotoxins, and a host evil chit. He came back sick and will be the rest of his life. They( The Government) knew they were sending people in there unprepared. But they didn't much care. It was good PR...and the suckers were beatin on the doors to help.

I don't get off on rich people walking into soup kitchens on holidays. Go down there on a tuesday and get hassled walking in the door. Deal with the runny nosed wide eyed freaks on a weekly basis. See how that feels.

Volunteer service is for schmucks. At least that is the way this society treats people who do it.

The fact is you should not volunteer if you don't honestly feel the 'take away' is greater than the 'give away'. Because no body is gonna pat you one the back for the right reasons....it's a con game.

I do a bit of it still, kind of like taking a soul shower. But I bought into the concept at a young age. It's worse that smokin that 'bad chit'. Can't put it down. I don't recommend it.
