I really enjoyed reading your post Tom..
I don't know the percentage of workers who are in the mining
business but I wonder how many will get laid off...I am totally
confused..with all these computers etc..isn't there a higher demand
for metals? I wonder what gives..have never seen the percentage
of increase in car ownership and appliances as the emerging countries
have emerged..also won't certain base metals become much more expensive with the cutback in exploration...
I am afraid that people who helped set the tigers ablaze and made
a fortune on the upside and then took their money out..will come
back in at firesale prices and buy out these companies and as a
result..trash even further the manufacturing sector in the states by
creating more parts for machinery etc abroad...
I don't think any extreme works in the long run...just heard about
somebody I used to work with who is now in charge of the database
system ..I was told he works up to six days a week and sometimes
12 hours a day...(the consensus among people who work with them is
that he is a computer genius)..doesn't that spell burnout..I sometimes look through the want ads and see things like willing to work very long hours etc...years ago I read that the problem was going to be dealing with "leisure" in
the coming automated society...
anyways..I underestimated the power of the central bankers...I had
previously read that they didn't have the power to go against market
forces...(guess that article was wrong)..so I guess as Peter Munk
said it is best to wait until the European Union is finalized one
way or another..before gold sparkles..(I heard him say that more
than a few months ago on television..why didn't I listen..)..wish
I had thought about how he and others could profit from the decline
in the price of gold..
also any deep pocketed investor would be drooling at this prices and
hope the central banks would sell all..and then clear skies ahead as all currencies could get trashed..

Tom thank you so much for your description of a peaceful setting. Your friend I have one like that too and there is the ease of hearth and yesterday when things wern't so complex . One could actually fix a car by themselves , it did not require a computer science major as parts were parts not tide to mother boards.

Bobby just stated her friend was working working 12 hours a day. I had a chat with my friend my son, last night His hours can be until four in the morning he is highly educated. He works six days a week prior to this he had time to enjoy life yet give of self to his friends. . I tried to say take time, yet that too has a cost- seek another job where the compensation does not meet the cost of living.
