John,
Re -- I think the Intel announcement about the software for viewing HDTV on PC's and TV's is VERY significant. & Intel Compaq relationship..

Intel has decided to support BOTH standards. It has not turned against MSFT and CPQ, but is also supporting the DTV standards..

According to Pfieffer (Compaq CEO) the relationship is very good. Industry partnerships and relationships are a funny thing these days. One company is a partner with another in one area, while competing in another. Its part of business which all parties understand.

Although it was played up in the press as Intel going AGAINST the PC industry, a close reading of Intel's planned offering shows that they plan to support both sequential and interlaced formats -- not so much going against the PC industry as making a decision to support the preferred formats of BOTH industries.
