Hi Robin, commodities have been in bear markets for the past 8 months or longer.... the real macro turning pont was when it became obvious that China was slowing down dramatically which has been known about for 9 to 12 months.

China was the driver of growth and demand..... they overbuilt and retrenched..... the Eurozone never got out of recession in any significant way and the real economy in the US is very weak since the 2009 March 6th market bottom.... we have had growth but economists will tell you that we should have been having more like 4 % GDP growth and millions more jobs created than we have had....

and now Japanese inflation QE policy is unraveling and their is a global concern regarding a recession coming back again soon.
