"Besides, we can trust the government"

Of course...why didn't I think of that?

>> Besides, we can trust the government.

This is, to me, the most laughable aspect of this. We've just spent 3 weeks outraged about the IRS violations, and now, out of blue, Republicans and Democrats alike are supporting this hoarding of private data on government servers. It is absurd.

If they will use the IRS to get reelected, what idiot thinks they wouldn't use the NSA data to do the same if the circumstances warranted? It doesn't have to be obama personally. It could his overzealous federal government union employees. WTF?

The Left has taken the position that the end justifies the means -- we don't care what it does to the country, we by-god want OUR political power and we want it NOW. In the same way we saw the "reconciliation" process move from "untenable" to the "way to get it done" on the Affordable Care Act. In the same way Obama lied his way into a second term in the WH. Some president down the road could well use these data to consolidate power. A well thought-out coup today would involve getting that NSA data and it would be way up on the list.
