He certainly wasn't doing "worse". Just the tech evolution alone makes the capture of CDRs far more of a concern than it was then.

And there is the trust factor -- everyone in his right mind knew that there is no way in hell GWB would abuse that kind of information, and it is blatantly apparent that Obama cannot be trusted. Those data could very well end up being mined for the next Democrat presidential candidate's election team.

C'mon man...he was doing warrantless wire tapping and insisted on keeping that capability, he fought tooth and nail against FISA court AND congressional oversight...and eventually he had to give these up and agree to the amendment act that was passed in 2007.... If bush had had his way there'd be no controls on these activities...a little objectivity please...

More importantly, we were in a war then. According to Obama, there is no apparent need for this information to captured at this point. The war on terror doesn't even exist.

Where did you get that one?

I think Obama's lack of transparency and willingness to do anything to retain power makes every thoughtful person reconsider how much personal data they want in government's hands.

Lack of transparency? On a classified program? Like what? He should advertise this stuff to the public? You've read what Bohener said about controls and congress oversight? One more time...

"I've been briefed on all of these programs," Boehner said. "There's no American who's gonna be snooped on in any way — unless they're in contact — with some terrorists around the world."

“There is heavy oversight of this program by the House Intelligence Committee on a bipartisan basis and the Senate Intelligence Committee,” he added. “And that’s why I feel comfortable that we can operate this program and protect the privacy rights of our citizens.”

And bush was advertising this stuff? Please...
