More than anything, I credit WWII, which decimated the rest of the world, which then had to be rebuilt. Hell, had it not been for that fact, if FDR's economic policy had been followed, we'd still be going, "Wonder why this damned Depression just won't go away. After all, we're borrowing and spending..."

A world without competition is a lovely thing, if you're the last man standing.
