I'm coming down on them for not giving PCI-e slots internally
What's wrong with external PCI-e enclosures?

Yes, now you will need an external box that costs extra and takes up more desk space.

Maybe having the choice of whether or not to pay for all that expandability is a good thing.

I still get a little nauseous looking at the sheer volume of waste I had in all those tower cases. I still have a closet full of them…

Well I think we have to agree to disagree here. I think they did the right thing. The SSD and the processor are not cheap. They cut a corner or two to make the machine right and cheap enough for most power users IMHO. I think FORM did indeed follow function on this design.

I do Audio editing, files are not quite as big as video but big none the less, and when you do audio with Logic the tendency is to write a lot of iterations and save them, particularly if you are an old man like me.

My 1Gb drive is only 1/2 full, and I have it partitioned. I have a firewire 800 back up dock and 3 drives. I bought the dock for my last computer on Allen's advice, I've had it 5 years. Of the drives one is for time machine, which also has a mirrored boot partition. One is for backing up my audio files. One is just for backing up all the junk I have on my drive. I could probably get rid of .2 gigs on my internal drive in an hour or two if I wasn't lazy.

Everyone who has critical files should have files on external drives you can put in a fire resistant safe or off premises.

Granted, some people might be slightly inconvenienced by Apple's choices. They had to make some compromises, I think they did the right thing.
