Before the ancient Greeks discovered democracy/republics dictator's ruled the people. Republics/democracies (same thing basically) have a zillion different types and the words are used interchangeably.

The thesis of republics/democracies is rule of the people, by the people and for the people, instead of dictators, kings or tribal leaders. This was a novel idea. Our democracy was probably the first of its kind, per se and very successful and we were very lucky it worked out so well. Our founding fathers sort of guided it along for a long time.

In South America and other places they were not so lucky as we.

I feel if you drill down to the bedrock of our democracy Republicans really don't like democary and because they don't rreally understand it or its alternatives.. And they are dangerous because I know they do not have a clear idea of what they really do like or what even democracy or republics are.

I am sure every poster on this thread has a different idea of both and a different idea of what they think would work.

Generic republics has been a rightwing talking point for long time as a way originally to preserve state's rights to avoid integration. Which was pretty dirty.

Of course those same people are plenty happy to have the federal government outlaw abortion for all states!
