<<<<<<WSJ is calling the ASND-LU talk "a takeover rumor of dubious merit".

.......i acutally hope lucent does not buy asnd--although i could be off in my judgement.

.......my biggest holding is csco--i like the fact that they buy up smaller companies at a fast rate and integrate them quickly--unlikke asnd, coms etc. that bit off more than they could chew and had problems with culture clashes.

......but there are some good rumors that not only lucent, but copaq as well are looking.

......with the fallen price of asnd and need for good management--i think that someone will buy them--the only question is who?

......lucent is the dominant teleco around here---and they have tremendous hardware and software expertise.

.....but they need some acquisitions in the internet telephony is they want to compete wth cisco--as they are getting big time into internet telephony.

......personally i want to own both and i think that this asian contagion and all of the fear around asians losing their appetite for cell phone is short term.

......hell--most people in the world are not even using a telephone. just read in business week that wireless telephone carriers are selling one phone to a woman in a large primitive tribe/group of people, these ladies then use a stopwatch and paper to figure out the cost of the call.

......once there is the slightest hint of prosperity--they will go out and buy these phones and the sector will explode again.

.......remember this idea of everyone having a computer is not a reality in the rest of the undeveloped world--in africa, latin america, and parts of asia--they will buy the phone first--then the motorcycle--then the car--then the computer.
