That's as I see it too. This is the most fun there is. The individual versus Big Brother played out in the single outpost on the planet of the great and glorious experiment in Virtuous Victorian Values which arose from the independence of Hong Kong during the Great Game of the 19th century and early 20th century followed by the monstrous 1984 Big Brother manoeuvres of the later 20th century and now early 21st century. Grandson Wai Ying's other grandfather fled [by swimming] to Hong Kong from the maw of Mao's maelstrom. Now an Edwardian name has arrived there fleeing from the "freedom" of the USA 1984 Big Brother Leviathan albeit not so economically robust these days nor otherwise enjoying full spectrum dominance. Hong Kong is such a precious place for freedom on the planet. Another possibility you did not mention is that some in the USA "thinking" department of National Security will have considered that a Predator could "take out" Edward from on high, through a window using a smallish petard. Obama is prone to drone. Rand Paul is not so prone. USA elections will, as usual, be coming up with those with us or against us taking up position to be on the right side of Federal largess. This is indeed a lot of fun and very serious. The Great Game is still on. The Individual vs Big Brother is the name of the game. China is not a fan of the Individual. But is also not a fan of being the target of the USA. Edward has certainly chosen a very much more interesting life than being a well-off drone in the bowels of Big Brother. People have reacted to his selection as they intuitively know they are making the same choice and that Big Brother thinks of them more as cows to be milked and sheep to be fleeced and eaten "for the common good of course" than as participants in freedom.
