globalization has crushed manufacturing in this country and you know it.

Actually manufacturing is alive and well in the USA. The reason the jobs are gone is automation, much more than globalization.

The US is still the number 1 manufacturing economy in the the world by most measures

Except that it hasn't. Up to the beginning of the recession, total manufacturing output in the US frequently hit new records. What's declined, by a lot, is 1 - Low margin, low end manufacturing of items not closely tied to raw materials produced here, and 2 - Manufacturing employment.
