Pancho.. you hit it right on the head with..
>> but you see greed and fear all over again! people think what about if the market goes up 30% in 98 and I miss all the action?<<

I'd like to interject a little story that hits on some good points you made and is in reference to some of the other posts I've seen people make to you.

Old time true story...
I'm sitting at the Baccarat table at the Sands at Vegas( you know its an old story now right) and I'm playing next to this oriental guy. I'm playing $50.00 - $100.00 hands and this guy is playing $1000.00 a throw. The cards are making nice runs of player player player bank bank bank tie tie player player player ..etc.

Well anyone who plays the Lyle Straut method knows that if you always bet runs or repeats the odds are with you that if you play long enough with the same bet each time ..you will walk away a winner . With the shoe having so many runs we made a bundle in about 3 or 4 hours.

I notice this guy is playing every hand exactly like I bet my hand.

All I know is the guy gets up.. Collects his winnings and walks away just PO'ed to the Nth degree...

I look at the guy next to me and I say... what was his problem?... he had to have made like 20 or 30 grand!

He says

Moral of the story....

that is Mr.. XXXXXX He always plays $5,000 to $10,000 per hand.
You noticed he was only playing $1,000/hand. He in essence was killing time not looking to win

You saw him make 20 grand.. he looks at it as having lost 5 to 10 times that amount because he was not playing his usual bet.
He's PO'd because if he would have been playing his usual $5000 a hand then he would have made some really big dough.

Point is amigo... it's all relative... winning is winning... never get greedy and always be willing to leave that last 30% as your one poster talked about for the other guy. the markets trade every day. there are no trophies given out for the most won or who played the longest or who licked the absolute top or bottom.

There is just the equity run and what you have at the end of each trading day. If you play the game and win...be happy... don't ever be playing the game looking for that last cent.... That's as you say greed.

Bulls win.. Bears win... pigs always lose and they all eventually get slaughtered don't they.

We all need to learn to be a player not a pig.

PS: One last thing on the Vegas thing. If you win and they want to comp you a room! This means they watched you play and realize your a lucky hack, a fish waiting to be reeling in... they keep you there via free food, room, drinks, shows ( they set the hook) then they just let you play and yel .. we got him.. reel reel reel reel..they get all your money back in more.
The guys that get comped the most are the biggest suckers. Vegas does not reward you for taking their dough gang. they are not in the charity nice guy business. They comp you because they want to be the ones to pluck your feathers not the casino next door. They build those fancy castles to lure us fish into the place...
They love guys like us. Hey... I've been comp'ed so I include myself with the pigeon crowd. Its just I'm smart enough to know when I'm just a lucky pigeon and when I'm really good at soemthing .. It has saved me ton's of glue not letting my luck effect my testosterone levels.

How do you know the really good players?

They watch a guy or gal play and politly tell them to please leave the casino and never come back.... your a player!!!

It's the altimate compliment any casino can ever pay you is to throw you out of their building and ask you to take you playing elsewhere.

Think about it next time sombody wants to comp you.
I hope somebody reads this and it saves them some dough on their next Vegas trip:-)
Take the comps for sure but realize your a little fish and they are the sharks... they don't build those castles because the comp people leave winners the majority of the time.
