Dave,

Seagate has some good info on their new Cheetah drives.

seagate.com

I chose the figures below from the above site based on the news release that HIF will be accepted for the new 9LP and Cheetah 18 series dds. In a nutshell the heads needed for these new drives are:

Cheetah 9LP - 6
Cheetah 9LP - 12
Cheetah 18 - 24

The older model Cheetah 4LP needed 8 heads and the Cheetah 9 needed 16 heads per unit.

I don't know if the Cheetah 4LP and 9 series used the MR technology (INVX's wires). It does look like less heads are being used, but with the shift to HIF this would produce more revenue per head which would offset the loss of revenue from MR lead wires. I believe I had heard that the MR wires were selling for 24-27 cents (per MR head) and that HIF was selling for about 45 cents per head. You can quote me on the price of the MR wires, but don't hold me to the fire on cost of HIF:)

Unfortunately I don't have the time to try to compute all this out, but if anyone has any thoughts let me know (ie number of Cheetah drives expected to be sold, when they will start using the HIF products, any possible MR (WAT) revenue loss/offset) due to HIF).

Kurt.

PS If the Cheetah 18 series ramps up it will bode well for INVX as 24 heads are needed and the cost of HIF is higher.
