Scowling Face of the State/Lois Lerner
Washington Post ^ | 6/12/13 | George Will

As soon as the Constitution permitted him to run for Congress, Al Salvi did. In 1986, just 26 and fresh from the University of Illinois law school, he sank $1,000 of his own money, which was most of his money, into his campaign to unseat an incumbent Democratic congressman. Salvi studied for the bar exam during meals at campaign dinners.

He lost his campaign. Today, however, he should be invited to Congress to testify about what happened 10 years later, when he was a prosperous lawyer and won the Republican Senate nomination to run against a Democratic congressman named Dick Durbin.

In the fall of 1996, at the campaign’s climax, Democrats filed with the Federal Election Commission charges against Salvi’s campaign alleging campaign finance violations. These charges dominated the campaign’s closing days. Salvi spoke by telephone with the head of the FEC’s Enforcement Division, who he remembers saying: “Promise me you will never run for office again, and we’ll drop this case.” He was speaking to Lois Lerner.

Republicans in Congress have voted 37 times to repeal health care reform, President Obama’s signature policy achievement. Do you really expect those same Republicans to reach a deal with the president over the nation’s fiscal future, which is closely linked to the future of federal health programs? Even if such a deal were somehow reached, do you really believe that the G.O.P. would honor that deal if and when it regained the White House?.....krugman

Man Who Corralled Four Vandals Until The Cops Come Charged With Endangerment

Posted on June 17, 2013 by Stranger

In a clear warning to the law abiding, the Daily Mail reports on another of those incredible cases that come out of gun control paradises. A New York man who caught four pre-teen vandals wrecking a home being remodeled has been charged with ‘child endangerment’ for locking the kids in a closet while waiting for the police to pick them up.

Briefly quoting the Daily Mail report linked above:

Daniels said he went to investigate while his wife called 911. He said he found four boys, ages 8 and 10, inside with hammers. He took a hammer from one, then stuck the boys in a closet until officers arrived, he said.

‘I was fortunate that they were in that room that had a closet, so I put them in the closet,’ he said. ‘I said, “Listen, you guys are staying here until the police come, period.”‘

Their parents said Daniels handled the boys roughly and threatened them with the hammer.

The damage to the home included holes in the walls, broken windows and graffiti derogatory to women spray-painted on walls. Daniels estimated that the damage to his father-in-law’s property exceeds $40,000.

In a civilized society, the parents get busy, apologize profusely, get the damage repaired to the homeowners satisfaction, and make the kids work it off.

In “progressive” societies the law abiding have no rights.
