... I am guessing, but yardley was signaling to Stimson that yardley also could read stimson's mail.

Stimson got the message give high signal to noise ratio, and did the only thing he could, leave before events get out of hand.

1. Whether to short goog/msft is debatable;

2. To void long goog /msft would be wise, as both are now vulnerable to ex-USA prosecution, forced release of source code;

3. It is difficult to engage in a 'cold' war when the one side challenges the other side by exposing intimate secrets of all sorts. Blameless types may be willing to engage in such a contest, and there may be one on two on this thread (surprise me), but count me out, and I would expect, count out all of Capitol Hill;

4. Now we can understand where china got the dirt on chen shui bian and his Credit Suisse a/c, and where nyt got wen Jia bao's relations goodies (I actually believe some folks in china tallied up on wen, and in any case it didn't apparently matter

Whereas it is relatively easy for Chinese and Russian politicians to survive pretender-scandals, just as French and Italians politicians can. American politicians would not last long in such a dragged out fight.

For they have too much secrets and to many falsehoods.
