There is a new wifi standard out now called ac. It has supposedly greatly improved bandwidth and range. If you don't mind putting a wifi dongle on the computers, it might be one option for better range. Or you could put your current router in the middle of your house as opposed to one end.

Here is a review of some current ac routers.

I just hooked up two powerline adapters. It works much better than wireless for remote corners of the house.
