Good article, Alphonse! ... did you increase your short position lately? ... Are you short any other company other than NOVL?

PS ... to the Novell employees that might be reading this thread and the article that Alphonse refers to ... Steve Ballmer is the VP of SALES at MSFT and considered 2nd to Bill Gates ... kind of shows what MSFT focuses on! ... Now, at Novell ... is there a VP of Sales? ... Manager of Sales? (I don't mean a bunch of 'field' Sales Department Managers ... but someone responsible for Sales at a corporate level).

Is there anyone at Novell HQ that has their performance measured on total sales revenue?

Looks like there was an 'oversight' in the Ballmer quote you posted.

Here is what looks like the same statement, by the same reporter:

URL:

news.com

Clipping:

> The last way maybe to cut our business is to say who are the top competitors. Because if you know who our top competitors are, it also tells you that everybody else looks either neutral or like a prospective friend to us, and I have a very clear list: Sun, Oracle, Novell, Netscape, IBM, and Corel. Those are really the guys that I think about on a very regular basis. <

I wonder how the Novell reference was missed on the quote you posted?

Hello all,

Alphonse actually posted this, which appeared to be in conflict with another article:

><<Ballmer took the opportunity to list Microsoft's friends and
> competitors in various markets. The competitor list was no
> surprise: Netscape Communications, Oracle, IBM, and Sun
> Microsystems--with Corel thrown in, more surprisingly.>>
>
> Ballmer: IE 4.0 a tradeoff

> Novell has nothing to worry about. It is no longer a competitor in
> the eyes of Microsoft <g>.

I was curious that this author had written two articles and one said Novell ... and one did not. I wrote to him and here is his response:

> Scott--
