all: From this week Barrons " Research Reports"

INTC-NNM)
by Madison Securities (75 1/8 , Nov. 10)
Since Intel reached its all-time high of $102 on August 6, the stock has fallen over 26%. It is now trading at 17.5 times our fiscal 1998 EPS estimate of $4.29. With many large-cap technology stocks trading at hefty premiums to their growth rate, Intel is actually trading at a 17% discount to its 1996-98 compound annual growth rate of 21%. We continue to Recommend Purchase for growth- oriented investors

The problems that Intel is having with misuse of the Pentium trademarks are mostly occuring at the retailer level, in newspaper advertising (often) and to a lesser degree in catalog advertising. It's going to be difficult to prevent this from happening, legal can send out notices, but only after the fact, and you are dealing with many small entities rather than one large one. It's nowhere near bad enough (yet, anyway) to threaten the trademark, but Intel's best approach might be to spend some ad money to educate the general public to the effect that any processors made by companies other than Intel are not Pentiums.
