You can easily turn off the SmartScreen, which I presume, is what keep popping up in your face.

Go to Personalize/Application Settings and uncheck "Replace your screensaver with PointCast".

Make sure the screensaver is not active by following Lev's directions, as well, change your update schedule to manual, this way the dial up will not automatically come on unless you ask it to.
