Lazarus has structural abnormalities in hippocampus and amygdala.

The hippocampus, thought to regulate emotion and memory, and the amygdala, involved with fear and aggression, tended to be smaller in heavy and long-term cannabis users than in controls.

...these brain regions are intricately involved in learning and memory processes and are considered core components of the emotional brain and the research found that in addition left hippocampal and amygdala volume was inversely associated with cumulative doses of cannabis over the previous 10 years, as well as subthreshold positive psychotic symptoms.

"heavy daily cannabis use across protracted periods exerts harmful effects on brain tissue and mental health;" however, there was a lack of prior brain testing.
