Eureka. It was the oxygenation from 2 billion yrs before that explains the sudden explosion of life forms.

It was one hell of an earth changing event both undersea environ & the atmosphere, we'll see just how in depth Meyers goes with tapping into stages leading up into the Cambrian. But the great oxygen event cannot be ignored & a theory thats really backed up by the data & would have great impact on what animals survive, which don't, opening up new niches and the distinct possibility for a period of rapidly changing forms filling those niches.

As for the book The Cambrian Explosion: The Construction of Animal Biodiversity by Douglas Erwin and James Valentine, lets hope your boy Meyers is as up to date on the fossil record, dating issues, evolutionary developmental biology, climate change, and the response of molecular phylogeny to it.

Meyers isn't breaking new ground here but they sure are playing up as if he has, which reminds me once again of what PT Barnum once said of people & the circus.

Compare the two book titles: one is professional The Cambrian Explosion: The Construction of Animal Biodiversity . And Meyer's loaded Darwins Doubt , is supposed to allude to some epic failure being exposed where there is none.

How disingenuous, why not be honest & call it "Genesis in the Cambrian" , then at least be truthful of the real intention? This is why he has to talk so much & comes off arrogant , like a gulity person trying to flim flam under examination to draw attention away from their trying to hide the feinted underlying deception.

I really hope Meyers is up to date with all his examples, or it just comes off as another failed creationist attack on Darwin and as we all know its gone far beyond him now as the book by Irwin & Valentine readily show.

Here's their finding:

The important point is covered in a paper by Erwin et al. (2011). It shows that the main animal groups probably split gradually over a period of tens of millions of years before the "explosion" became visible in the fossil record [see The Cambrian Conundrum: Fossils vs Genes]. The authors show that the molecular data indicates an earlier divergence and trace fossils are consistent with that data.
