Got a call from the Nikko Hotel to fix the dishwasher unit. It was next to the Ballroom and when I took a peak, by golly it was the ADSL Forum Summit in action. Needless to say I took as long as possible to supervise the fixing of the dishwasher as I snuck my head into the ballroom. Craig Mundie demonstrated their brand new version of their WebTV box. Said that all three pipes are viable for the future (ADSL,cable,wireless). In other words, he doesn't care, just fatten up the pipes will ya. Nevertheless he said their WebTV box should (means not yet) have a feature to be ADSL ready. Microsoft wants to get into the consumer arena and hopes that ADSL will help enable them to do it. One of the many strong benefits of ADSL is that you don't have to dial-up. It is always on standby, click a button on your PC/terminal and you are instantly on. Soon we will all be on one giant LAN. Phil Skeba of Ameritech spoke. They currently have a trial with Westell. But when they go to full deployment, I'm sure I heard him mumble Alcatel. All telcos claiming ADSL is within the top 3 priorities from corporate brass. All claiming that 1988 is the year for ADSL. Then they started whispering among themselves that 1999 will be the year for massive deployment. And then all of a sudden I got sprayed with water as one of the dishwasher went amok, so I had to roll up my sleeves and get back to business. Peter Piper (your electronic dishwasher)
