1) " if the continuation of pregnancy might imperil the life of the woman." applies to very very few abortions these days.

2) Sounds like Judaism is down on late term abortion too, unless the mother's life is in danger:

" In another passage the Talmud speaks of a "moment of determination" and a "moment of creation" in regard to different stages of the fetus. [14] Rashi explains that the moment of creation is when bones and arteries begin to form [15] and in other places he says that the "moment of creation" is at the 40th day."

Certainly you avoided the question. Which is what is the health issue involved, in allowing the child to be born rather than crushing its brain which somehow solves the mother's health concerns. Sounds to me and I suspect most that the purpose of the procedure has nothing to do with mom's health and everything to do with aborting the baby.
