LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A Silver Spring, Maryland middle school teacher has been arrested and charged with several counts of child sex abuse, and police believe there could be more victims.

In May, Montgomery County Police received information from an administrator at A. Mario Loiederman Middle that two students had been touched inappropriately by their teacher.

Detectives met with the 11-year-old female victims, who confirmed that Benjamin Robert Cano, 33, of Edgewater, had inappropriately touched them. They disclosed that a third student, a 12-year-old female, was inappropriately touched by the teacher, as well.

Police believe the abuse occurred between August 2012 and May 2013.

Cano was arrested Wednesday, and charged with three counts of sexual abuse of a minor and three counts of committing a 3rd degree sex offense. Bond information is not yet available.

Authorities say there may be more student victims, and urge parents to speak with their children and contact the police department if appropriate. Detectives can be reached at 240-773-5400.
