Anybody who hasn't read about the cooperative effort by IBM, Lotus, Taligent and Sun to bring a high-productivity office-pack to Java should visit this site. Pay particular attention to the support by leaders in the automotive and banking industry for Java-based solutions. The fact is, the work-product from these tools will be as easy to create, maintain and communicate as that from Microsoft's brittle, needlessly complex, poorly designed, poorly implemented, unsecure and proprietary bloatware. Moreover, the quality of that work-product will not be comprimised simply because the tools have a smaller footprint. The scaleable application (beas on demand over the bean bus) makes far more sense than the stand-alone, pig-ware being offered by Gates. The cost is $49 per client and $1500 for the developer's pack. The goal is ubiquity. Now, it's up to everybody to drop their Office and start using the eSuite next year. At last count there were over 700,000 Java developers so plug-in components for importing and exporting will be growing on trees. GAME OVER MICROSOFT!
