That the entire story of Israel's sojourn, enslavement, and exodus from Egypt was invented to copy a legend about Sargon's birth.

Thats really a staged question to couch your flat denial & we understand the discomfort of your fixed bias, that you have no interest in evidence or acknowledge the similarity in the stories . And next you'll be saying the Hebrew creation story predates the one of Babylon 1000yrs earlier where they were held captives? While still maintaining Exodus was written in 1400bc by the hand of Moses?

We do know with certainty Hebrews were taken captives by the Babylonians, but the complete absence of archaeological evidence no one in their right minds even questions the fantastic Egyptian captivity story with Moses any longer, especially its dating.

Why did they invent/copy such a story? Well that should be even simple enough for you to answer, they mirrored a story that they knew, of the greatest king or savior of that time to lend weight to their own. One that was ancient, well known, then scribed in to insprire all the young lads to follow, like the 1000's of young Jesus's, Joshuas & Jebedia's to follow.

The phrasing of your question is intended to deflect & deny but not succeding. The biggest problem the bible has is that Protestant Reformers saddled it with a burden that no ancient text could possibly withstand. They claimed it was totally and literally true and in the last 30-100 years archaeology has torn that premise to shreds.
