RE:Second what effect the growth of the under $1000 PC market on equipment makers? Which companies make the chips that will go into this growth area?

I expect National Semiconductor to be the prime beneficiary in this new growth segment. Their recent acquisition of Cyrix and its integrated x86 MPU intellectual property makes them the major player in future sub-$500 PCs. Their new South Portland fab along with foundry agreements with TSMC, UMC, and Chartered means they have some serious capacity at their disposal.

PC prices will continue to fall.

Please do your DD and be aware that I own stock in the company,

Bob

PS Compaq is expected to announce a GX based notebook in the near future.
