1 - Sowell doesn't say very many things that are at all similar to Robertson (except uncontroversial things, I'm sure they might both say something like "its a nice day today" from time to time but that's hardly relevant or important).

2 - Even with Robertson (or someone less extreme and credible than Robertson), arguing against the person doesn't refute the claim. Claiming or implying that it does is committing the ad hominem fallacy. Just bashing them without making such a claim or implication is making an irrelevant personal attack.

Note - This is not the case if your responding to an argument from authority with the person in question as the supposed authority. If I said "X is true, look see Bob says it is", then "Bob is an idiot", if true, might be an appropriate response. But I didn't make an argument from authority, and also your claims about Sowell are false.
