Machaon and all, here are more excuses being made for the behavior and the shortcomings of Trayvon's female friend, Rachel Jeantel :

news.yahoo.com
  • Ms. Jeantel can't speak coherently? That's due to her "multi-lingual background."
  • Her being a disaster for the prosecution? That's due to the divide between rich and poor, which makes black people ineffective in testifying against whites.
  • Her obvious lack of education? It's because she grew up in a "segregated Miami community."
  • Is she demonstrating dysfunction or "edgy culture"? A columnist in the Tampa Bay Times just HAS to ask.
  • She can't read a letter that she originally claimed she wrote? It's not because she lied, it's because she dictated it to a friend, who then wrote it in cursive, which of course she can't read not because she's illiterate, but because schools have been phasing cursive out of its curriculum. (Of course, her friend can write cursive just fine ...)
It's AMAZING how hard the media is trying to make up for the prosecution's weak case. We're not talking about insignificant guys like Tejek anymore. We're talking about columnists, professors, and many other intellectuals who refuse to call a spade a spade.
