No specifics on options here, please."...the purchase of long-term options on stocks in promising companies whenever available" I have no problem with this as moderator. This is not "explicitly" (your words) though his saying that it is LEAPs. As I read what Mr. Carret is saying, if you find a promising company (i.e. one that he would approve of or that you believe is a value), then you could purchase long-term options on it, presumably to either enhance your returns or lever up a small bet and with a small $ risk of loss. The issue here, and maybe one the Mr. Carret didn't face, is once the company is identified, which leaps does one buy? And, if there are pricing anomalies between leaps or the other options on the company, which do you buy? Further, if somebody here is able to discern by Klarmen's study of all asset classes, that there are anomalies on leaps occurring all through the stock market at occasional periods, is there really any difference in buying or hedging with leaps regardless that the company may be promising or not? Thus, this thread spins into a on-going discussion leaps, options. =========================== " Our definition of value should be expanded to include mispriced/undervalued options." I do not want to see this thread hijacked by options players! This is a stock-picking, value thread. Stocks ! We've kept this standard for maybe 15 years. Here's what I say: If you find a "promising" company, put it out here for discussion. If you find leaps on that company to be available and beneficial, that can be said. If you want to i.d. and discuss the specifics of that or those leaps, do it on the absolute value thread that you moderate. (Why aren't you doing that now?) If you or anybody else here wants to discuss specific misplaced options, you can do that on a thread devoted to options, or on another thread, or your thread. Not here. ===================== Sorry this thread doesn't meet your expectations/desires. You have other options though. -g-
