Actually, there is such a thing as a milk bank. Some babies can't tolerate anything but breast milk and you can donate. I remember that vaguely from my nursing days....
Also- I debated about telling this but since I know everything is treated confidentially here on DAR..
My best friend and I had babies around the same time, although she had to outdo me by having twins-she's also the friend who whupped me nightly in raquetball all through law school-it's a testament to my sweet temperament that I continued to love her. They were visiting us when the babies were about 6 months old and we were rushing around getting ready to go somewhere and trying to nurse all these babies and she said, "I wonder if one of mine would use you?" We debated for a while, but the whole idea felt sort of adulterous or immoral or something and we couldn't bring ourselves to swap, which we agreed was funny but still couldn't do it.
If we had, would that have been the maternal equivalent of being blood brothers? Or maybe the babies would then have been related?
