I think Ryan is barking up the wrong tree too if he thinks that a smartwatch can replace a smartphone.
Depends upon your usage pattern. Someone who primarily talks and texts and gets basic info but doesn't browse much nor have any use for documents or productivity tools might find it a useful replacement. But of course the watch would also have to contain cellular data and voice capabilities within, plus a useful battery life, plus be paired with a wireless earpiece. Easier said than done.

A huge edge that Glass has is that its earpiece is included and the display can contain much more data... everything can be private. Problem is that Glass doesn't contain cell data/voice either, and it would take some serious shrinkage to make that possible.

In essence, I don't think either form factor is ready for prime time any time soon. But Google isn't counting on it to be. Apple investors, however, are banking on it to be the next huge driver of high-margin revenue they are paying for.
