Google probably has a net loss on Android, but they've got browser ad profits down pat.
Correct on your latter statement, but that's precisely why the first part is incorrect. Google makes money when people are online, surfing, etc using *any* platform. They are in the hole on Android if you count only revenues directly from it, but not at all when you consider how much additional time it has caused people to be online. The Kindle - even though it's a butchered version of Google's Android - makes tons of money for Google.
