Any thought on the impact of MCI/WorldCom merger toward the network equipment providers? I know serveral projects (expansion/migration) are pending in MCI and WorldCom due to the merger outcome. WorldCom expects to save $500 million from the bandwidth and resources sharing with MCI. Will these savings cause some slowdown on their hardware purchase? I know WorldCOm has been delaying the deployment of CBX500 ATM Core on their FR network after the MFS merger. The combined network size of MCI and WorldCom is quite BIG, about 70% of the Internet traffic. Most stock performance of network stocks except CSCO are not doing well in 1997. One of the reasons is the consoliation of ISPs from around 2000 to around 1000.
I hope a big jump on the demand of new technology (ADSL, Cable modem, Gigaswitch) in 1998 to speed up the equipment upgrade.
