** OT ** re: telecom/ERICY

While I'm sure this is much more appropriate to be discussed on the ERICY thread, I can't see this layoff notice as anything close to supporting Mike's previous comment.

ERICY is trying to attain a level of profitability in their Infocom systems division on par with their other divisions. Infocom currently lags the other divisions because it's orders booked and net sales "only" increased 18% & 25% last quarter, while the company-wide averages were 41% & 44%. Also, Infocom consists entirely of systems not related to the TDMA vs. CDMA battle, rather their Internet support applications and AXE/Consono exchange systems. I view this as more of a proactive attack by ERICY to boost an area of their business to higher profitability. The area of their business that directly competes with the "new paradigm" CDMA systems (Mobile Phones & Terminals, & Mobile Systems) saw a doubling of sales (that's right, 100% increase) in some areas last quarter. Hardly the signs of a telecom company in the shadow of death as some would have you believe.
