"So if you as an atheist are convinced that torture is evil you should be able to provide a justification for that belief. Still waiting``

Are you brain dead?

Modern educated morality is very consistent being based on the inviolate laws of reason working on the trial and error knowledge of 200,000 years of living and dying. There are still religious people who do not believe that torture is evil but most rational people disagree.

Secularists justify their morality by submitting ideas to the universal forum of reasoned debate. I cannot think of a better justification for a moral set of laws such as we enjoy in western culture.

Superstitious people on the other hand, justify their morality--not on thoughtful and modern discourse and debate--but rather on a few books written by primitive people who were (obviously) not very rational and with no science to inform their judgements. Therefore, they necessarily based their opinions on ignorance and their judgements on falsehoods and imagined truths.

Thus we find two very different codes of morality: One justified by centuries of research and trial and error examined and debated under the lens of REASON…and the other invented and written down by some primitive men in bronze age times and geared to the (irrational) idea that some people are `Chosen People`.

Which do you prefer? The morality that exalts superstition, rape, genocide, `Chosen People (instead of all people are created equal`), infantile treatment of diseases by wiping blood on your ear and your big toe and shit like that--or the hard won morality of modern western secular culture?

Primitive morality was no better than primitive medicine. It was PRIMITIVE! HELLO!! Anybody home !! The seventies are over, drug boy!
