He should at least get manslaughter . The judge will give the jury instructions to consider manslaughter if they feel they do not have enough for 2nd degree murder. However, the case has gone so poorly for the prosecution they may not be able to get even a manslaughter conviction. I am afraid this will be another OJ Simpson case where the perp gets off.He should have identified himself as neighborhood watch, then showed he was armed before he even got near Martin. Unless he WANTED the excuse to shoot him? He should have minded his own business. The guy is a loser and should not have even been on a neighborhood watch. I thought these two comments about Zimmerman by the same cop were revealing: *Being a police officer I think I can know what happened during this incident. Zimmerman being a "wanna be copper" was a very dangerous person. I have worked with guys like this douche bag that somehow slipped through the cracks. They are very dangerous and unpredictable. Zimmerman came upon Martin and assumed he was up to no good (a lot of house breaks in the area) and decided to play policeman. He calls it in like I would a police radio call. Dispatch (a civilian) advises Z to stay in his vehicle and wait for a cruiser (which could take an hour or longer) Dipshit decides to exit his vehicle and make contact with Martin. Martin is like "Fuck you dude" and takes off running. Zimmerman being the wanna be that he is, gives pursuit. Martin doubles back and attacks Zimmerman. A fight erupts and before you know it, Z is getting his ass handed to him. Z feels the only way out of this is to shoot this kid which he does resulting in the death of Martin. In all honesty I dont think Zimmerman meant for this end result. I really don't. Zimmerman was denied several police officer positions most likely bc of his credit and pysc issues. You can spot these guys a mile away. I do think he will be convicted based on the evidence. *The elements for manslaughter are not there. Murder 2 was the appropriate charge as the elements meet second degree murder. Based on the merits of this case, I do think he will be convicted of second degree murder. In no way is the Zimmerman/Martin case unique. This has occurred in other parts of the US. I don't get all the "cracker" comments either. Zimmerman is Hispanic? Just by looking at this guy you can determine he has a lot of issues. Like I stated above, I know a lot of security guards, bouncers, volunteer fireman who so badly want to be cops they will act out in strange ways. Being a "neighborhood watchman" he was able to fulfill his police fantasy. I'm happy that every L/E agency this dumb ass applied to shut him down. The prosecutors in this case don't seem to have it together which will have a negative impact on the jury. You're dealing with 12 folks who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty......
