What computer do you have that has Firewire?
Oh crap. You know... I just assumed one of my three modern laptops would have one. Wrong. Well... I do have an old Windows 2000 Media Center era Gateway with Firewire.

Hmm. I wonder if there's a way to record/transfer from Hi8 tape to the camera's internal memory stick then somehow transfer that over to the laptop? Maybe I now have buy/borrow a more modern desktop with Firewire?

Supposedly USB 3 is compatible with Firewire's method of transfer but I've not researched that yet to see if conversion is possible. USB itself is not.

I order things like memory cards and phone accessories from Hong Kong. This site is dirt cheap and very reliable: cellphoneshop.net. Yes, is does take a few weeks but even the shipping is cheap. For example, how can anyone not order a 16GB micro SD card for their phone for $10? All that extra music, video, pictures, etc. Very very handy.
