Elroy has written: "*Yeah, so it seems that USRobotics keeps larger channel inventories than 3Com would like. So? No one is going to argue with that issue."

The point is that in six months (June thru Nov), the overstuffed channel situation did not resolve itself. Eric B. said they are 75% of the way to where they want to be, at the expense of "slight" profits for the qtr ending 11/97. The point is that sales are stagnant.

Elroy has written: "Do you really believe the stock is more likely to end 1998 at 20 something or 60 something?

I have not mentioned long term price targets or time frames. But let's not kid anyone: If anyone has invested in 3Com since 18 months ago, they're not making any money at all. Their investment has produced zero results for the buy-and-hold investor so far. Now to add insult to injury, the company they invested in is going to report "slight" profits for this quarter, and more than likely very diminished profits for next quarter. For FY 1998, earnings per share will have declined sequentially, from $2.01 in FY 1997 to (First Call estimate $1.08 for FY 1998. First call estimate for FY 1999 is $1.99. If this sounds like a great story to invest in, then be my guest.

lroy:>>Given all these things and realizing that 3Com inherited a stuffed channel, why would the stock decline from its current level??? The channel problems are well known, and the very positive outlook for 1998 is also well known. As the number 2 player in networking, who would want to sell/short this stock??? Do you really believe the stock is more likely to end 1998 at 20 something or 60 something?<<
