Simplicity, my wife and I followed the story of the Asiana crash the moment it broke. Here are my thoughts:

- It's a miracle that so many people survived that crash.

- I hate to say it, since the one time I flew in an Asiana Boeing 777, it was a pleasant experience. But it's looking more and more like pilot error. What went wrong?

- The instrument landing system at SFO was down since a month ago. That system could have reduced the possibility of pilot error. Was the delay in fixing this a result of budget sequestration?

- Some of the passengers who escaped the crash were holding their carry-on luggage. Really? That didn't delay the evacuation by even a few seconds? Unbelievable.

- The news of the crash broke on Twitter before even the major news outlets heard about it (e.g. the Samsung executive tweeting about the crash right after walking away from it). Welcome to the new age where social media breaks the news before the mainstream media does.

- Korean news outlets were kind of slow in picking up the story, but then again, when the crash happened it was 3:30 AM in Korea.

- Meanwhile, the local FOX affiliate KTVU had the most up-to-date developments on the story. Yay for FOX.

- Oh and by the way, the long weekend was a bad one for planes apparently. 10 people died in a small aircraft taxi in Alaska. And in Southern California, a small plane (the kind that flies banners over beaches) crashed right next to the 405 freeway just short of the Long Beach Airport runway. Crazy crazy weekend.
