Like they say, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Your the only one that's setting up that situation here. Someone will post stories of government abuses, or areas the government performs poorly and you will jump to "We need firefighters and police". Eliminating the worst from government doesn't threaten the idea of government funding for such things (although it might threaten some of the abuses in those areas).
