To US there's not a dime's worth of difference between Sunni and Shia, but to US there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between Catholic and Protestant in Ireland either. It's not what WE think but what THEY think. Sunni and Shia have this 1000 year HATRED between them (at least the fundamentalists on both sides). The good news is that the Secular folks seem to be gaining traction but the bad news is that the Fundamentalist folks are the ones that are willing to KILL themselves for whatever they believe in.
