It is dangerous for the world to have nuclear nations run by 7th century philosophies, so I am for the moderanists. Is that what you call Democrat Truman? A "modernist" for blowing up tow cities full of innocent women and children with nuclear bombs?

It is dangerous, that's a big part of the reason why we have gotten involved. Which isn't to say that active involvement in conflict after conflict in the ME is always the right decision, far from that, sometimes its a serious mistake, but getting out completely isn't going to happen, and shouldn't, both because of 1 - The issue of securing oil supplies, 2 - the continued fight against certain terrorist groups, esp. Al Qaeda, and 3 - the problem you mention, the concern about these countries getting nukes (or worse yet potentially terrorist groups getting nukes from these countries). But your right that both sides in the Syrian conflict are full of people that hate America. Al Qaeda affiliated or connected Islamists are far from the whole of the rebel side, but their an important part of it. While on the government side you have Hezbollah, and a government that is fairly odious.
